Tyler began his PhD in Biological Engineering in 2016. He is currently an NSF Fellow working in the labs of Christopher Voigt and Angela Belcher. In lab, he is engineering synthetic plant-microbe communities to sense and respond to their environment in a controlled manner. He grew up in Arizona and remained in-state for his undergraduate degree which he completed at the University of Arizona in Biomedical Engineering. Tyler is an active member of the MIT Outing Club and prefers to spend sunny days outside mountain biking, rock climbing, or skiing.
