Anne Shen, 4th year graduate student

4th year graduate student
Alm Lab, CSB

Anne is a PhD student in the Alm lab, where she develops a framework for utilizing microbial genome-wide association studies (mGWAS) to link bacterial genotypes to phenotypes. Originally from Sugar Land, TX, Anne received her degree in Biological Sciences from Wellesley College in 2017, after which she completed a Fulbright Student Research fellowship studying local honey bees in Tbilisi, Georgia. She returned to Boston and conducted research in a gene-editing lab at Boston Children’s Hospital before joining the MIT CSB program in 2020. Having benefited from the BE Comm Lab since her graduate school applications, Anne hopes to help others develop the skills to communicate their scientific discoveries and personal narratives clearly and succinctly. Outside of the Comm Lab, Anne enjoys playing volleyball with friends from church, watching nature documentaries, and trying new recipes.
