Ellen Kan, 5th year graduate student

5th year graduate student
Griffith and Kamm Labs, BE

Ellen is a PhD student in the Griffith and Kamm Labs, where she uses tissue engineering approaches to create in vitro models for studying endometriosis. Originally from Fairfax, Virginia, she joined the MIT BE program in 2019 after receiving her B.S. in biomedical engineering from Yale University. Ellen’s passion for science communication is rooted in her seven years of journalism experience in high school and college. She strongly believes that the success of translational science is grounded in not just innovative research, but also intentional efforts to make our science digestible and compelling for diverse audiences. Outside of the Comm Lab, Ellen is also involved with the BE REFS, and she is serving as the BE Teaching Development Fellow this year. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, baking late into the night, and strategizing for her next fantasy football win.
