Jamison Watson, Communication Fellow

Communication Fellow
Postdoctoral Fellow, Roman Lab

Jamison is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Yuriy Román lab. Originally from Minnesota, he received his B.A. in Chemistry from St. Olaf College in 2014. He then moved to Illinois to pursue graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his M.S. in 2017 and his Ph.D. in 2021 in the Agricultural & Biological Engineering department. His thesis focused on the waste-to-energy nexus, involving the thermochemical conversion of bio-waste (e.g., crop residues, food waste, animal waste, etc.) into transportation fuel via thermochemical processing. At MIT, Jamison is focusing on the catalytic depolymerization and hydrodeoxygenation of agricultural residues to yield sustainable aviation fuel. Jamison is passionate about communicating scientific findings to a wide array of audiences using data visualization and creative storytelling. He is particularly interested in helping clients with figure ideation, presentation preparation, scientific writing, and job application/interview preparation. Outside of research and the Communication Lab, Jamison is passionate about basketball and language acquisition, which inspired him to study abroad for several years in Beijing, China at China Agricultural University and Tsinghua University.
