Elia is a postdoctoral associate at the Department of Chemical Engineering. His research revolves around industrial data analytics and mathematical modeling, with focus on integration of machine learning and domain knowledge. He is also interested in leveraging data-driven modeling to tackle to challenges in the process industry, developing and analyzing algorithms, and streamlining model development workflows. Beyond his research commitment, Elia is the Treasurer of the MIT Postdoctoral Association, where he manages the budget of the association and advocates for postdocs at MIT. He also coordinates the Italian Language and conversation Exchange group. As a Fellow of the ChemE Communication Lab, Elia is excited to help members of the MIT community to improve their communication, especially with presentations, visual design, and human-readable coding styles.

Elia was born and raised in the countryside of Verona, Italy. He earned his BS, MS, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Padua. Outside academia, he enjoys cooking, baking, and learning about diverse cuisines. He is passionate about the culture of tea, always on the lookout for new teas to try. He also likes to take long walks around the city, looking at the ever-changing landscapes and finding beauty in everyday sceneries.
