Katelyn Ripley, Communication Fellow

Communication Fellow
5th year graduate student, Brushett Lab

Katelyn is a Chemical Engineering Ph.D. candidate and NDSEG fellow advised by Fikile Brushett. Before attending MIT, Katelyn received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering and M.S. in Engineering Management from Northeastern University in 2020. While at Northeastern, she participated in the co-op program where she had the opportunity to work at two companies developing long duration energy storage technologies: Lockheed Martin Advanced Energy Storage and Form Energy. At these early-stage companies, Katelyn studied the electrochemical stability of flow battery electrolytes and gained experience communicating her work to wider audiences outside of academia. As an undergraduate researcher, Katelyn also investigated bismuth-modified manganese dioxide cathodes for long-duration energy storage. At MIT, Katelyn is leveraging electro-analytical methods and device-level analyses to engineer an electrochemical cell to facilitate direct CO2 separations. Katelyn is excited about sharing her knowledge gained on co-op to both improve communication with audiences outside of academia and to help students tailor their resumes/CVs. When Katelyn isn’t in the lab, she spends her time playing volleyball, skiing, running, crocheting, or reading a good book.
