Kristina Haslinger, Communication Fellow Alum

Communication Fellow Alum

Kristina was a postdoc in the Prather lab in Chemical Engineering, where she engineered bacteria to sustainably produce chemicals that are otherwise extracted from plants in high-energy, low-efficiency processes. Before moving to the US, Kristina studied Biology at the Universities of Wuerzburg (Germany) and Perpignan (France) and obtained her PhD in 2015 from Heidelberg University (Germany) with a focus on the structural biology of enzymes involved in bacterial secondary metabolism. During her PhD she supervised four undergraduate students in the lab and mentored them throughout the writing of lab reports and theses. Through these experiences Kristina discovered that she finds reading, writing and reviewing scientific texts – in particular in collaboration with other scientists – much more exciting and rewarding than most people do. Outside of the lab Kristina enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, gardening and yoga.
