Megan Herrington, Communication Fellow

Communication Fellow
2nd year graduate student, Smith Lab

Megan is a PhD student and NSF Fellow studying metal-organic framework (MOF) and polymer composite materials for energy-efficient gas separations in Zach Smith’s lab. She grew up in Overland Park, KS and earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa in 2023, where she also minored in math and physics. Through several undergraduate research experiences, her work as an undergraduate lab TA, and her ChemE senior design class, Megan developed an appreciation for clear and engaging scientific communication. She is passionate about crafting stories through oral and written communication for a range of audiences. Finally, Megan adamantly believes that leisurely reading (fiction and nonfiction), can transform the way we communicate science, helping us to more artfully connect ideas, themes, and data in a way that resonates with a target audience. When she’s not in the lab, Megan enjoys knitting, crocheting, reading, and hosting game nights with friends.
