Communication Fellow
5th year graduate student, Karnik and Smith Labs
Simar is a ChemE Ph.D. student in the Karnik (MechE) and Smith Labs. She is enthusiastic about sustainable technologies and is currently working on carbon based membranes for separations; studying nanoporous graphene membranes and polymeric carbon molecular sieves. Originally from India, she did her undergrad from IIT Delhi. She is enthusiastic about reaching out to the wider public through science communication and effectively using visuals and gestures in presentations. She is interested in understanding and helping with issues faced by non-native speakers in communicating their science. Outside of lab, she loves to go for long walks, with her camera ready to capture all colors of nature. She also enjoys exploring new brunch places, taking guided tours of historical sites, and on quieter days, enjoying the company of a book.
