Tom Goodwin, Communication Fellow

3rd year graduate student, Smith and Brushett Labs

Tom is a ChemE PhD student, co-advised by Zachary Smith and Fikile Brushett. His research focuses on implementing thin film composite polymer membranes in nonaqueous redox flow batteries to advance the novel energy storage device. He earned his BS in ChemE at UMass Amherst in 2023, not far from his hometown of Sturbridge, MA. Tom is passionate about making technical communication—especially oral communication—more engaging and accessible. As a Comm Lab fellow, he’s excited to support peers in developing impactful, audience-centered communication skills. In his free time, Tom enjoys skiing, running, and listening to and creating music.
