In collaboration with Prof. Saman Amarasinghe, the EECS Comm Lab is hosting a free seminar series intended for MIT EECS PhD students who want to learn more about what it\u2019s like to be a professor and how they can prepare for a career on the tenure track.<\/p>\n

The first three sessions will feature panels of faculty talking about their own experience. The final session will offer an introduction to the components of a faculty application package. Each session will offer the opportunity for Q&A with the speakers.<\/p>\n

Thursday 5\/15 at 1:00 PM EST – Being a Professor is the Best Occupation<\/b><\/h4>\n

Hear from senior EECS faculty about the pros of being a prof. Learn about various aspects of what it\u2019s like to be a professor – research, teaching, career opportunities, and being a part of the academic community.<\/p>\n

Thursday 5\/15<\/b> at 2:30 PM EST – Getting Through the Junior Faculty Years<\/b><\/h4>\n

Hear from mid-career EECS faculty about how they survived their junior faculty years. Learn what skills are needed to be successful, what opportunities exist, and what stressors junior faculty often face.<\/p>\n

Friday 5\/16 at 1:00 PM EST – Getting a Faculty Job<\/b><\/h4>\n

Hear from junior EECS faculty and successful faculty candidates about their job search experience. Learn what it\u2019s like to complete the faculty application and interview process and negotiate a job offer.<\/p>\n

Friday 5\/16 at 2:30 PM EST – Preparing for Your Own Faculty Application<\/b><\/h4>\n

Hear from the EECS Comm Lab about the components of a faculty application package. Learn what skills you can be building now in order to write a strong research statement, teaching statement, and CV when it comes time to apply.<\/p>\n
