Sixth-year graduate student
Reyu hails from Japan but grew up in California, where she completed her undergraduate major in Chemical Biology and minor in Physics at UC Berkeley. Though becoming an electrical engineer was a bit of an adjustment, she’s now working towards a PhD with Ivan Celanovic on simulating and fabricating photonic crystals for thermophotovoltaic applications. She hopes that her interdisciplinary background, which has made her seek ways to better communicate with researchers in different fields, will inform her work in the Comm Lab.
Despite being cold all the time and missing warm California, she’s inexplicably drawn to cold places like Iceland, Alaska, and Canada. Outside the lab she can often be found scribbling with her fountain pen, very slowly learning Clojure and French, and stealing whatever vegan goodies her flatmates are baking.
