MERS Group: human-robot collaboration
Annabel Gomez is a PhD student in the MIT Model-Based Embedded and Robotics Systems (MERS) group. Her research lies in robotics, more specifically, in human-robot collaboration. Currently, within human-robot collaboration, she is addressing the problem of activity recognition from visual input. She was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech in 2023. During her time at Caltech, she interned and conducted research at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for three years. Some of the projects she worked on included sampling and caching for the Mars 2020 missions and forces estimations for the Mars InSight Lander robotic arm. As a CommLab Fellow, Annabel uses her skills and experience to coach her peers on how to successfully share their innovative ideas and research findings through effective technical and public communication. When not in the lab, Annabel enjoys painting, watching movies, and exploring new cafes around Boston to enjoy a good read.
