Space Systems Lab: optimizing areal cost of space-based telescopes

Evan Kramer is a PhD candidate in the Space Systems Laboratory with research interests in remote sensing, satellite constellation astrodynamics, and image processing. His PhD research seeks to improve the accuracy and utility of data products derived from constellations of synthetic aperture radar satellites through information-optimized scheduling of observations. His technical experience extends beyond academic research having completed internships at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (3X), NASA’s Johnson Space Center, rocket manufacturer Astra, and Meta Reality Labs. Evan holds a B.S. in aerospace engineering with a minor in physics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a master’s of science in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT. He is passionate about creative storytelling and public outreach as demonstrated by his photojournalism work for MIT Aero Astro and NASA JPL and the public outreach presentations he has hosted as a NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador. Outside of the office, you can find Evan doing astrophotography on rooftops at MIT, playing soccer, or out in the great outdoors.
