Hyein Choi, Comm Lab Fellow

Comm Lab Fellow
Mechanical Engineering

Hyein is an NSF fellow and a master’s student in Mechanical Engineering, working in the Deng Energy and Nanotechnology Group led by Professor Sili Deng.

At MIT, Hyein’s research focuses on energetic materials and propellants, combining both experimental and computational methods to study combustion chemistry and the fundamental physics governing reaction kinetics. Her work aims to uncover and control the underlying mechanisms that drive reactive material behavior, contributing to advancements in propulsion and energy systems.

Prior to MIT, she earned her B.S in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from the University of New Mexico. Outside the lab, Hyein enjoys spending time in nature, reading, watching films and television, and cuddling with her cat.
