Comm Lab Fellow
Julia is a Mechanical Engineering PhD student in the Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Lab, working to make drip irrigation systems more energy-efficient and affordable for smallholder farmers. She is focusing on redesigning the fluid-structure interaction within drip emitters, and managing field trials of her lab’s new irrigation technologies in Jordan and Morocco. Julia completed her master’s thesis at MIT, developing a methodology for calibrating urban-scale building energy models. Prior to MIT, she worked as a sustainability consultant, helping reduce energy use in residential and commercial buildings. Julia grew up in Moscow, Russia and New York City, and received her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard College. In her free time, she likes doing film photography, skiing, swimming, and exploring new places.
