Comm Lab Fellow
Rima is a PhD candidate in the Ideation Lab and is a former MIT undergrad as well! She worked for two years between undergrad and grad school as a design and engineering educator in a K-12 setting where she ran a school makerspace. She’s always been interested in fun applications of engineering, from designing roller coasters to prototyping escape rooms. Now, she is focused on research related to the people involved with the design process: studying sketching and prototyping during the early stages of design, working on how to design makerspaces to be more equitable, and exploring ways to embed ethics, equity, and justice in design curriculum and research. She’s a firm believer in the well-rounded engineer as someone who knows how to do great technical work, think deeply about the social implications of their work, and clearly and accurately communicate their work to broad audiences.
Outside the lab, she loves anything and everything hands on and crafty, such as screen printing shirts and making ceramics. She’s an avid reader and is always excited to exchange book recommendations as well!
