Comm Lab Fellow
Mechanical Engineering
Tom is a PhD candidate in the the Therapeutic Technology Design and Development (TTDD) lab led by Professor Ellen Roche. His research combines robotics and medical-imaging to develop computer-assisted and robotic surgical techniques that optimize the treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases. Prior to MIT, Tom completed a B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering & M.E. degree in Electronic & Computer Engineering at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). Tom is particularly interested in generating new technologies that serve important clinical needs and improve patient outcomes. Tom is passionate about helping researchers clearly explain complex scientific concepts using a ground-up, first-principles approach, and in particular can assist with the communication-intensive tasks required of the MechE program, including research/lightning talks, qualifying exams (subject and research), poster presentations, and fellowship/grad school applications.
