Academic and professional editors share their thoughts on the features of high-quality engineering research papers.
It is not easy to make a research manuscript a compelling read. They are technical, they don’t have characters, and there’s unlikely to be a cliffhanger moment or a twist at the end. They do, however, tell a story of discovery or innovation, with a backstory to dig into and often with a challenge to overcome. “A well-crafted engineering paper must offer sufficient procedural clarity—through flowcharts, key computational steps, and methodological transparency—so that other researchers can replicate the study with confidence”.
