Former CEE Communication Lab Manager

Dr. Chris Featherman joined MIT’s Comm Lab in 2022 as the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Communication Lab Manager. He also collaborated with the Comm Lab team to develop instructional materials and peer-coaching best practices.

An applied linguist, Chris holds a Ph.D. in Language and Rhetoric from the University of Washington in Seattle, where, in addition to his doctoral research on language and ideology in the public sphere, he collaborated with international researchers to better understand the English-language histories and practices of African skilled migrants. Before joining MIT, he taught at Northeastern University, where he enjoyed helping students use writing to link their service- and co-op learning experiences with their professional and educational goals. With over 20 years of teaching experience, Chris has worked both in the U.S. and abroad with students and professionals from diverse language and learning backgrounds. His teaching and research are guided by the belief that communication is not only a tool for building and sharing knowledge, but also a means of addressing our collective challenges and extending opportunities to others.
