Manager, Civil and Environmental Engineering Communication Lab

Jared Berezin leads a team of graduate and postdoc Communication Fellows in their efforts to strengthen written, oral, and visual communication across the CEE community. Jared collaborates with students, postdocs, faculty, and staff to identify communication needs and design meaningful learning opportunities, such as extracurricular workshops, in-class lectures, and online resources. In addition, he is a lecturer in MIT’s Writing, Rhetoric, and Professional Communication Program. Jared has presented and published research on team collaboration, disability studies, metaphorical explanation, and compassion pedagogy.

Before joining the Comm Lab, Jared served as a full-time lecturer at MIT, teaching 21W.035 (Communicating Science to the Public) and co-teaching in a variety of discipline-specific subjects, such as Environmental Chemistry, Nuclear Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Product Design. In this role, Jared collaborated with faculty to design active communication experiences and assignments to help students explore rhetorical principles in a variety of contexts.

Prior to joining MIT, Jared was a science writer for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he wrote narrative reports to educate and gain funding from public and private philanthropic organizations. He holds a BA in English from Colby College, an MA in Literature from Boston College, and a PhD in Education from Lesley University.
