2nd year PhD student
Whittle Lab

Mahdi is a graduate student working with Professor Andrew Whittle in the Soil Mechanics Group. His research focuses on modeling the environmentally-driven behavior of expansive clays in a changing climate. His work involves developing a numerical model that simulates the behavior of unsaturated soils, addressing soil-atmosphere interactions, multiphase flow, ground deformation, and desiccation cracking.

Mahdi has organized various student seminars and competitions, served as a TA, authored conference/journal articles and a book, delivered conference talks and poster presentations, and received several fellowships and awards. His main areas of communication expertise include creating presentation slides and posters, writing grad school essays, resumes/CVs, and scholarship essays.
