Matthew Goss, 5th year PhD student

5th year PhD student
Kroll Group

Matthew is a graduate student studying Atmospheric Chemistry in the Kroll Group. While Matthew received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Williams College in 2017, he has increasingly focused this background towards environmental applications, first through aquatic environmental chemistry on a Fulbright Grant at Stockholm University, and now through the study of atmospheric oxidation processes at MIT. Matthew currently works on understanding the chemical transformations of carbon-sulfur compounds emitted from the ocean, and is particularly focused on their impact on climate. Beyond chemistry, Matthew has worked in architecture and hiking trail maintenance and loves to think about what can be learned from completely distinct fields. When not in the lab, Matthew enjoys baking, and biking with the MIT Cycling Team.

Matthew has experience publishing scientific journal articles, giving poster and platform presentations at academic conferences, navigating the hurdles of CEE General Exam and Thesis Proposal, and applying for academic fellowships.
