Matti Gralka, Postdoctoral Fellow

Postdoctoral Fellow
Cordero Lab

Hailing from Germany, Matti started out studying Physics at Leipzig University. He quickly became interested in applying methods from Physics to biological questions and ended spending a year developing mathematical models to understand how soft biological materials can be sturdy and pliable at the same time. Afterwards, he moved to Berkeley for his PhD, where he turned further towards biology studying how microbes grow and evolve in densely packed communities called biofilms. At MIT, as a postdoctoral fellow studying marine microbial ecology, he is trying to understand how bacteria work together to degrade organic matter in the oceans. In his free time, he enjoys walking his dogs, playing drums and video games, and optimizing line widths in Illustrator.
