The CommKit is a collection of guides to successful scientific communication, written by MIT’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Communication Fellows.
Our goal in creating this resource is to share how we, as graduate students and postdocs, think about conveying technical information in written, oral, and visual formats to a range of audiences.
Each guide is a short, self-contained discussion about how you can craft a successful document or presentation. To help translate theory into practice, we include annotated real-world examples like published papers and application materials from successful fellowship applications.
We designed the CommKit as a complement to our peer-to-peer coaching within MIT’s School of Engineering. While we cannot offer individual coaching to those at other institutions, we hope that the CommKit will be a useful resource for the larger engineering and scientific community.
Thank you for taking an interest in the newly launched CEE Communication Lab. We recently added several new CommKits specific to Civil and Environmental Engineering in June 2020. For more info on topics we haven’t yet covered, keep checking our website, or make an appointment with one of our CEE Communication Fellows!
