NSE Communication Fellow 2016-2018
now Co-founder of Paperplane
Ben applied to join the NSE Communication Lab on a whim outside of the standard hiring timeline, displaying an eagerness to support his fellow classmates as well as hone his own communication skills. He completed his Ph.D. research with Prof. Emilio Baglietto during which he developed a new bubble-induced turbulence model that improves liquid turbulence predictions, and will aid the simulation and design of nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic components. Upon graduating he found employment at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) to continue developing models to improve multiphase flow simulation predictions for naval reactor applications. His favorite aspect of the Comm Lab was the coaching sessions, wherein he worked with students to improve the communication of their message, and in doing so, learned a great deal more about the diversity of nuclear engineering research.
