Liam is a PhD student in NSE researching nuclear safety for the unique challenges of advanced nuclear systems. In his research with Prof. Shirvan, Liam is working to improve the economics of High-Temperature Gas Reactors through improved performance during severe accidents. Liam’s career at MIT NSE began as an undergraduate where he worked with the MIT Nuclear Reactor Lab and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to modernize test reactor oversight and support the operation of the current test reactor fleet. He is passionate about the regulation of the next generation of nuclear energy and has co-authored several pieces on fusion regulatory frameworks for MIT’s Science Policy Review and the American Nuclear Society. Liam’s love of the nuclear community extends outside the classroom where he has served for three years as a board member for MIT’s chapter of the American Nuclear Society.
