NSE Communication Fellow 2021-2022
now Co-Founder and CTO at Mantel
Sean joined the Comm lab at the start of the last year of his PhD. Although his tenure was short, Sean found immense value in the Comm lab experience. Whether it was tips and tricks that could be applied to his own work or the reward of a successful coaching session, the Comm lab served as the perfect complement to last minute experiments and thesis writing. Prior to coming to MIT, Sean completed a BSc in Chemistry at Mount Allison University in Canada, as well as an MSc in Nuclear Engineering from the Université Paris-Sud in France. He then took a short hiatus from academia and joined an advanced nuclear reactor startup. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on investigating methods for better characterizing fluoride molten salt thermophysical properties with Professor Mike Short. Following his Ph.D., Sean has gone on to found and serve as the Chief Technology Officer for Mantel, a startup focused on the development of molten salts as a novel carbon capture material.
